Abstract

In 2017, 95 % of soybean cultivation area and production fell on only eight European countries. In the period from 2000 to 2017, within these countries the cultivation area increased 5.3 fold, production 5.6 fold and hectare yield by 0.61 and 33 %. In spite of this increase, the future objective is further expanding soybean production also to other countries. Soybean can be utilized for animal feeding with or without thermic treatment, as soybean cake and soybean meal. Soybean can be included in cattle diets without any treatment, whereas hydrothermic treatment is necessary for using in poultry diets. The current cultivation area of soybean in the European Union would ensure 12 % of the current consumption of meat, eggs, milk and cheese.
