Abstract

Company Selgen has bred a new wheat variety – Pexeso with an increased content of lutein and zeaxanthin. The lutein content is twice as high as in the common varieties. his variety is suitable for baking and feeding. In IAS, it was tested in feed mixtures for hens. Pexeso had a positive effect on the color of the egg yolk, but the intensity of the coloration was still lower than preferred by Czech consumers. In addition, Pexeso increased the content of lutein and zeaxanthin in yolks, oxidative stability of yolk fats and strength of eggshell.
