Abstract | The article discusses both the advantages and disadvantages of using temporary crate housing systems in pig farming. This system is considered a potential alternative that is more favorable to the welfare conditions of both sows and piglets. There are concerns that the use of temporary crates might increase piglet mortality due to the free-moving sow in the pen. However, based on scientific studies, piglet mortality rates are comparable to those in permanent crate systems. The article also outlines specific designs for temporary crate housing systems. |
