Abstract

Subclinical hypocalcemia and strong negative nutrient/energy balance with high rates of lipid mobilisation are common complications of peripartum period in dairy cows. Both conditions significantly predispose individuals to the occurrence of a wide range of veterinary and economically significant diseases [1,2,3]. The aim of the study was to compare the relationship of the lactation number, the energy balance monitored by non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and mineral metabolism, especially the serum calcium concentration in pluriparous dairy cows.
