Abstract

Climate change is a global problem that does not avoid animal production. Sources of greenhouse gases in pig farming can be found throughout the entire process, from the production and consumption of feed and soil pollution, through the actual breeding of individual animal categories, water consumption and wastewater management, energy and fuel consumption, slurry or manure management, and slaughter. The production of slaughter animals has the highest share of the carbon footprint of pig farming, assessed by category.
