Abstract

The Scientific Seminar Animal science in Bohemia and Moravia, which took place on November 9, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Institute of Animal Science in Prague Uhříněves and which was organized by the Department of Genetics and Breeding of Farm Animals in synergy with the Cattle Breeding Department, focused on two fundamental themes of modern livestock breeding in the Czech Republic, namely the economy and genomics. The use of genomic practices in livestock breeding significantly influences its success. Economic weights, the result of using bioeconomic models, are an integral part of the selection indices. The result is a population of dairy cattle that provides good benefits, is efficient and healthy, which is the basis of an economically successful farm aimed at dairy cattle. An essential part of the seminar was the presentation of the Czech scientific journal, the Czech Journal of Animal Science and the scientific conference of the regional meeting of the EAAP in Nitra in 2022. The journal and the conference present the results of scientific research in the two areas presented.
