Abstract

The ensilaging experiment of lucerne with about 35 % dry matter was aimed mainly at assessing the influence of selected ensilaging additives on the quality of the silage obtained after a harvest with different chop lengths. Additionally to the control sample without the additive, the influence of 3 chemical preservatives and 1 biological preservative was tested. Penn State Particle Size Separator was used to ascertain the actual chop length. In the course of fermentation, the temperature was continuously measured with special microsensors with 0.065 °C accuracy. Silages with longer chops left 69.9 % mass on the separator with 19 mm mesh after separation, while silages with shorter chops left only 25.7 %. The chop length did not significantly influence the fermentation results (P
