The success of raising calves depends on the quality of the work stockperson. The aim of the work was to evaluate the influence of nursing care on the growth of calves. Long-term monitoring was carried out in 2880 calves during the milk feeding period and in 27 stockpersons. The technology of housing, feeding, watering, and bedding during the whole time of monitoring was the same. The work quality of stockpersons has a major influence on calf growth. The main factors affecting the amount of average daily gain of calves are the individuality of the stockperson, his gender or the length of his practice, as well as the high turnover of stockpersons.
