Abstract

The aim of our study was assessment the impact of two different types of housing of calves on the selected bioclimatological parameters (air temperature and relative humidity of the air) during different macroclimatic periods of the year and their effect on performance, health and welfare. During five macroclimatic periods (hot summer, moderate summer, transition period, moderate winter and frozen winter) the dynamics of outside, inside temperature and relative humidity of the air were recorded in the living zone of calf in hourly intervals by digital data loggers. Detected values were statistically assessed by methods of general linear model using the Statistica software. According the obtained data there were not proved the statistically significant differences in temperature-humidity climate between followed types of calf housing during the milk period. Calves reared in individual pens under shelter reached a significantly lower average daily gain during the milk diet in compared with calves reared in tarpaulin hutches. The higher prevalence of diarrheal disease and respiratory tract was detected with calves reared in shelter, as well as higher mortality of calves in comparison with outdoor hutches.
