| Abstract | In recent decades, increasing attention has been paid to the influence of the social environment on the welfare of farm animals. Social species such as cattle are evolutionarily adapted to living in social environments, which provide appropriate conditions for their development. However, in dairy cattle production systems, calves are predominantly housed individually until eight weeks of age. Consequently, some producers have begun to focus on modifying calf housing environments in order to better meet their social needs. |
