Abstract

Influence of the structure of the feed ration of dairy cows on the production of greenhouse gases The aim of the experiment was to determine the production of greenhouse gases in high-yielding dairy cows of the Holstein breed in relation to the stimulation of rumen motor skills and the change in the quality of the feed ration in terms of changes in fibre content. The experiment took place in an air-conditioned stable of the Institute of Animal Science. The experiment included 8 dairy cows, divided into two groups. In three periods of 21 days, not only greenhouse gas emissions were measured, but also performance indicators and rumen fermentation, including continuous pH measurement using eCOW boluses. The experiment in dairy cows did not show the announced positive effects of the application of the rumen motor stimulator, nor changes in the fibre content in the mixed feed ration on the reduction of the production of greenhouse gases, ie methane, carbon dioxide and ammonia.
