Abstract | The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of housing system and feed calcium content on eggshell quality and microbial contamination of egg. The laying hens ISA Brown were housed in enriched cages and on litter and fed two levels of calcium (3 and 3.5%) in feed mixtures during the whole laying cycle. Significant interaction between housing system and calcium content was found in eggshell strength with the highest values in eggs from cage with 3.5%. Housing system significantly (P O.001) influenced hen-day egg production, daily feed consumption and eggshell strength. Calcium content significantly (P |
