Abstract

There is a growing interest in the use of modern technologies to monitor animal activity in dairy farms. This interest is fueled by the need to improve reproductive performance, reduce labor and production costs and thus succeed in a highly competitive environment. The article deals with systems monitoring physical activity and rumination movements and, based on a combination of these data, draws attention to the optimal time for insemination and health complications. The article deals only with general questions in an effort to introduce breeders one of the possibilities of using modern technology in breeding management. In the Czech Republic, there are a number of companies in the market that sell or even develop various technological solutions. However, the choice of the appropriate system is entirely up to the breeder and should take into account the production conditions, herd management and continuity with the existing technological and software equipment.
