Abstract

Modern selection indices are already based not only on genetic (genomic) parameters, but increasingly also on the economic importance (EV) of selected traits. The goal is to improve the traits and characteristics of animals that have a positive effect on the economics of breeding. The breeding of beef cattle should therefore move towards economic sustainability, and this is one of the main goals of the new project on which the Research Institute of Livestock Production and the Czech Association of Beef Cattle Breeders will cooperate in the coming years. However, the project will not be possible without the active cooperation of breeders. This should count in the assistance associated with the economic evaluation of domestic farms. It is the results of the breeders that will form the basic building block for the creation of selection indices based on economically significant traits.
