Abstract

Veterinary output (cost of veterinary service and drugs) found in a group of 54 Czech dairy farms in 2010 reached an average of CZK 2030 per cow, CZK 5.55 per feeding day and CZK 0.28 per litre of delivered milk. Share of these cost on total milk production cost are 3.5%. Significant variability of veterinary output (share of these costs on total milk production cost range from 0.6 to 6.3%) provides opportunity for further cost optimization. Cost monitoring results were not confirmed growth of veterinary costs per litre of delivered milk in relation with increasing dairy yield. Because of higher milk yield of Holstein herds (+ approx 2100 litre) compared to the Czech Fleckvieh, there is now significant cost difference between both breeds. Statistical relation show to the fact, that veterinary output is influenced by fertility and herd variation (caw culling).
