Abstract

The nutritionally demanding transit period (3 weeks before and 3 weeks after calving) influence the following milk yield, pregnancy and health. In case of nutritional deficiencies during transit period the peak of lactation is reduced and is reflected in total milk production. The first 7 – 10 days after calving are the most important for calf cows with a weakened immune system caused by the unbalancing of dry matter intake and increased milk production. This disproportion can leads to the occurrence of metabolic and infectious diseases.
