Abstract | Phytic acid is the main compound of phosphorus in seeds of plants. The availability of phytate phosphorus is low in monogastric animals and high in ruminants. Therefore, feed mixtures for poultry and pigs are often supplemented with microbial phytase. In humans consuming mixed food the presence of phytic acid in diets is beneficial, rather than harmful. |
