Abstract

The aim of this paper was to compare the white lupine (LB) and blue lupine (LÚ) in terms of their effect on milk production and milk composition of rabbit does, growth performance and health status of weaned rabbits, nutrient digestibility, nitrogen retention and carcass quality. Two lactation and two fattening diets were formulated. Control lactation diet and control fattening diet conatined LB as crude protein (CP) source, whereas experimental lactation diet and experimental fattening diet contained LÚ as CP source. A total of 32 Hyplus rabbit does were included in experiment, all of them were after third parturition. Number of kits were standardized to 9 right after birth. Performance of rabbit does, daily milk yield, performance of litters before and after weaning, carcass quality, digestibilit of nutrients and nitrogen balance was monitored. Results of this study confirmed that LB is a suitable CP source and can be unreservedly recommended for rabbit feeds. Blue lupin seems to be another suitable CP source, but in comparison with LB some negatives were found (lower live weight of rabbit does at weaning, higher health risk index in fattening rabbits and lower digestibility of diets).
