| Abstract | The publication provides basic information about animal hygiene in rescue stations. The authors briefly address on the legislation that is directly related to the activities of wildlife rescue stations. Furthermore, attention is focused on defining the concept of welfare, including problems with ensuring the well-being of animals and the importance of the enriched environment for animals in wildlife rescue stations. The key part of the publication is the issue of the breeding environment animal hygiene in wildlife rescue stations. The breeding environment has a fundamental influence on the organism of handicapped animals; therefore, the publication solves the questions of the microclimatic factors influence that affect the thermal comfort of the organism (air temperature, relative humidity, and air flow rate) and other abiotic (lighting, noise, barometric pressure, chemical composition of the air) and biotic (dust and microbial contamination) indicators of the quality of the breeding environment, which affect animal health and welfare. The contents of other chapters are requirements for space (minimum dimensions) and its equipment for selected species of handicapped animals and sanitation measures, including sanitation workflow procedures (mechanical cleaning, washing, disinfection, disinsection, and deratization). Effective sanitation of the breeding environment is the basis of prevention of the introduction and pathogens spread in wildlife rescue stations (biosecurity). The publication is supplemented with an overview of basic terminology not only from the area of wild animal breeding, but also in pet breeding, animal rescue stations, animal shelters, zoo corners, and zoos. |
