Prediction of Nutritional Value, Digestion in Ruminants

Master departmentNutrition and Feeding of Farm Animals
Description

The focus of the research group is to evaluate the digestibility, ruminal degradability and nutritive value of feeds. Several in vitro and in sacco methods are applied to achieve these. Attention is given to the fractional rate of degradation of neutral detergent fibre (NDF), the ratio of digestible to indigestible NDF, and interactions between NDF degradability and time of forage harvesting. The department has obtained merit in the innovation of feed energy and protein evaluation systems for ruminants and horses. In addition, research is conducted to monitor forage preservation by ensiling and the effect of chemical and biological additives on silage quality.
