| Abstrakt | Breeding system characteristics belong to the key elements of the livestock breeding strategies. An online anonymous survey was carried out to describe these features in Czech beef farms. R Statistical Software ver. 4.4.3, „cluster“ and „factoextra“ packages were used for statistical analyses, clustering analyses and results visualisation, respectively. In 41 survey answers, farms practised conventional and ecological management (44% and 49%, respectively; 7% in transition and mixed), mainly produced the breeding animals (34%) or diversified production (29%) among all beef categories, and combining the pure breeding and crossbreeding in one herd (56% of farms). Almost 80% of farms had only one breed, the most common herd size was up to 29 cows (22%) and farmer’s age up to 49 years (3/4). Considering various evaluation criteria and clustering approaches, three beef systems were defined as specific in terms of herd size, management, marketing, breeding strategy, breed structure, and farmer age. Breeding values and performance were jointly used as the primary information for animal breeding in all three systems. Cluster 1 represented purebreeding farms specialised in production of breeding animals. Farms in clusters 2 and 3 combined pure- and crossbreeding strategies with production partially (cluster 2) and fully (cluster 3) diversified for all beef categories. The overall characteristics of the survey farms showed to be representative of local production conditions. Three beef systems were specific in terms of farm characteristics and will be considered for further breeding strategy adjustment. |
