Abstrakt

Lycopene is a carotenoid mostly presented in vegetables and in some fruit species as a red pigment and is a most potent known antioxidant of plant origin. A large number of studies dealing with the importance of lycopene for human health and disease havebeen published, but few papers deal with the effect of lycopene in poultry diet on its meat quality. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to determine the potential effect of lycopene on lipid profile and quality of meat of broiler chickens. It was found that the dietary supplement of lycopene significantly increased the final live weight and positively affected the lipid profile of blood plasma of broilers. However, any significant effect of diet lycopene on meat quality of broiler chickens was notproved.
