Abstract

The ninth „Milk Forum“ was named „German Milk in International Competition“ on March 15 and 16 at the Berlin Hotel Titanic. Within the framework of the main program, the Federal Minister for Agriculture spoke with her speech; the panel discussion on cooperative dairies and a presentation of seven lectures were held. The situation on the dairy market was documented and its anticipated development was presented by ZMB Berlin M. Wohlfarth. On a global scale, milk production between 2004 and 2017 increased by 190 million tonnes and 31% to 830 million tonnes. On the topic „European milk in the global market – how does the EU support competitiveness?“ focused J. Schaps from the European Commission in Brussels. He said that the milk production is the most important sector of European agriculture. The chairman of supervisory board of the FrieslandCampina Dairy F. Keurentjes discussed the international dairy competition. A report on the chances of milk producers on the global European market was presented by the breeder and a member of the board of directors of the German agricultural company (DLG) M. Ziaja from Poland. The course and results of the Milk Forum were reviewed by the president of the K. Schmal Milk Producers‘ Union. He said it was high time to draw the right conclusions from the dairy crises.
