Abstract

The intake of sufficient quality feed is a prerequisite for achieving adequate and satisfactory growth parameters, meat production, optimal reproductive parameters and milk production in sows, and quality of ejaculate in boars. In pigs, the need for amino acids is calculated. Pigs need amino acids for growth, health, optimal production and reproductive performance. The most important sources of protein are soya, fishmeal and animal proteins (their use within the EU is limited by current legislation). The article describes the most commonly used protein feeds and also introduces new alternatives suitable for pig feeding.
