Abstract | The disbudding of dairy calves is a common practice on majority of Czech dairy farms. Majority of farmers do not give any painkillers to the calves during (or before/after) this procedure. The current scientific knowledge, however, shows that disbudding is a painful procedure. The pain can last up to 3 weeks. Thus, this procedure influence the calves‘ welfare and production. These negative implications can be mitigate by several practice adjustement. |
