Abstract

The seminar aimed to acquaint the professional, breeding and scientific public with the results of the research carried out as part of the work of the Department of Genetics and Breeding of Farm Animals in 2023. This year, research results focused on breeding dairy and beef cattle and pigs using genomic procedures were presented at the seminar. While for beef cattle, Ing. Zdenka Veselá, PhD focused on the use of genomic selection in the Aberdeen Angus breed, specifically in the sonographically measured longest back muscle, Ing. Eva Kašná, PhD presented the procedure and advantages of including cows with domestic performance in the genomic reference population in the genomic selection of dairy cattle. Two lectures continued thematically after the break. First, Ing. Emil Krupa, PhD, spoke about the possibilities and practical use of genomics in breeding Czech pig populations. Dr Karel Novák, CSc. then presented the genes of natural immunity in cattle and the whole spectrum of their use in cattle breeding.
