Abstract

The aim of this article was to evaluate development of production and economic parameters of dairy sheep in Slovakia for the period 2006-2011. Farms of dairy sheep breeds and their crosses with specialised dairy breeds included in database of APRC Nitra were evaluated. Within evaluated period, average number of ewes in flock increased by 25 %. There were 565 of ewes in flock with 80 kg milk yield per ewe and milking period, 119 % prolificacy per ewe in flock and 3.85 years of productive lifetime of ewes, on average. Unit costs increased by 49 % per kg of milk and by 6 % per weaned lamb in this period. Although the market price of milk increased (+40 %), unit price of lambs was decreased (-35 %). The production of these commodities was in loss over the period. Value of loss on the sale excluding the subsidies reached 0.81 euro per kg of milk and 1.97 euro per kg of lamb. Profit to cost ratio ranged from -9 % (lambs in 2006) to -65 % (lambs in 2009).
