This year, the Youth Olympic Games were to be held in Dakar, Senegal, from October 22 to November 9, 2022. Historically, this was to be the first Youth Olympic Games in Africa. Unfortunately, this will not be the case and the games will be postponed to 2026. The reason is not only the complicated situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the overall economic situation. Following the postponement of the Youth Olympic Games for four years, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), in agreement with the International Olympic Committee, has decided to hold the FEI Youth Equestrian Games this year. The substitute competition for young athletes will be organized according to the same format and rules (FEI Regulations for the Youth Equestrian Games 2022) as the Youth Olympic Games, which are an elite sporting event for young equestrian talents from all over the world.
