Abstract | Genetic relationship between longevity and conformation traits were estimated using data on 57 000 Czech Holstein cows. Longevity traits considered were length of productive life, true longevity and functional longevity (i. e. the longevity traits corrected for milk production). The heritabilities were in the range from 0.05 (locomotion) to 0.43 (height at sacrum). Positive genetic correlations occurred between composition traits feet & legs (0.19) or udder (0.10) and longevity. Body condition score (0.30) and angularity (-0.31) showed stronger genetic correlations with functional longevity. Also rear legs set (side view) (-0.24) and hock quality (0.19) ranked to the traits with stronger genetic relationship to longevity. Stronger genetic correlations were found between rear udder width and functional longevity (-0.22). |
