A Global Strategy for the Management of Farm Animal Genetic Resources has been recommended by FAO and is now operational. This Strategy covers activities such as the monitoring of existing animal genetic resources, in situ and ex situ conservation programmes, training and communication. The article describes pig genetic resources in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, Czech Republic and marginally in others parts of the world.
