Abstract

Tail biting is a major problem in pig farming, which occurs mainly in fattening, but can occur in the rearing of any category of pigs. Breeders, in an effort to address this problem, are resorting to piglet tail docking in early ontogenesis to avoid this problem. But is this solution optimal for piglets in terms of their welfare? Is it possible to prevent these negative behaviors without docking tails?
