Abstract | Our results show clearly that the housing had only a very limited effect on the sucking and nursing behaviour after opening the farrowing crate at DAY 4 and did not impair the suckling and nursing behaviour. The free access during the whole lactation did not support the weaning process in temporary crating pens. However, increased litter size significantly impaired the nursings and suckling behaviour of the sow and piglets independently form the housing system. |
