Abstract

This year marks 200 years since the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel, a biologist, founder of genetics and discoverer of the basic laws of inheritance. Department of Genetics and Breeding of Livestock Research Institute of Livestock Production, v.v.i. hosted the seminar „Contribution of J. G. Mendela to breed livestock“, which takes place on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, in Prague Uhřínevsi. The seminar aimed on dairy and meat cattle, pigs, sheep and horses, and how this relates to work G. J. Mendela. Despite the use of complex population-genetic methods in breeding, significant changes in the genetic makeup of livestock brought about by breeding efforts in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, they have a general basis for knowledge of the heredity of the brilliantly described G. J. Mendel on peas.
