Abstract

Between 2000 and 2011 in the Czech Republic decreased meat production by about 198 thousand tons and 28 %. The highest decrease (about 133 thousand tons and 34 %) reached the decrease of the production of pork. Sales of slaughter animals in the same period fell by CZK 7.7 billion and 27 % of which for pigs by CZK 7.3 billion and 45 %. In 2011 the production of meat per hectare of agricultural land reached 119 kg and 231 €, it is approximately 42 and 45 % of the same indicators in the EU-15, per capita 48 kg and 92 € (52 a 54 %). Due to a decline in self-sufficiency in meat consumption below 100 %, it seems necessary to stop this negative trend. The main condition for increasing meat production is to improve the economics of its production, which requires the implementation of business (increase growth, improve fertility of cows, improving meat quality etc.) and over business (promoting quality and domestic food consumption, the same principles of the common agricultural policy in the EU, etc.).
