Abstract

European Milk Board (EMB) covers 19 associations of milk producers from 14 European countries and represents around one hundred thousand dairy farmers who produce around 75% of EU milk. Among the objectives of EMB include achieving permanent milk production in all Europe regions and good standard of living. Is a precondition for achieving a higher purchase price than production costs. The paper deals with the factors affecting milk production in EU, analyzes impact of milk crisis 2008/2009 on Europe, where net income per farm between 2008 and 2009 decreased in EU-15 by 32%, deals with the risks resulting from abolition of regulation and possibility of regulating milk production. From analyzes and other information it was concluded that regulation is necessary even after abolition of quotas in 2015. Main assumptions regulations of milk production at farm level and producer organizations by EMB include maintaining protection of EU internal market of milk and establishing a baseline production volume.
