Abstract

The yearbook provides a comprehensive overview of the main results and indicators in cattle breeding in 2022 and points out the main trends in this important sector in the last few years. In 2022, not only the agricultural sector was marked by high price increases. During 2022, prices for milk and slaughter cattle were rising, but on the other hand, input prices (feed, labour, energy, etc.) were also rising, which translated into a considerable increase in production costs for farmers. High prices were the cause of the year-on-year increase in the estimated economic result of Czech agriculture. When assessing the cattle sector in the Czech Republic in 2022, it is evident that there have been no significant year-on-year changes in terms of cattle numbers in each category, production and sales of milk and slaughter cattle as well as consumption of dairy and beef. In the longer term, the growth in the total volume of milk produced in the Czech Republic and in the annual milk yield, which has long been one of the highest in the Czech Republic compared with EU countries, can certainly be assessed positively.
