Abstract | Social environment is important for development of mammalian young. In spite of this, dairy calves are mostly reared individually during first weeks of life. Previous studies indicated that individual housing of calves may impair their cognitive abilities. We reared 20 heifers individually and 16 in pairs and tested their performances in 2 phases of discrimination learning. |
