Abstract | Distribution of maize hybrids by maturity based on the FAO numbers in practice often does not work, because the earliness expression is dependent on the genetic predisposition of hybrids and on the conditions of their cultivation. The generalization of the division of hybrids sometimes leads to gross errors in the estimation of the appropriate harvest time and the associated losses of digestible nutrients and losses during the fermentation of silage. In 2013, when the dry matter content of 31,3 % ± 1,6, we harvested 15 hybrids with the same number of FAO 220-330 in two similar locations (Uhříněves, Troubsko). Excluding the impact of the dry matter did not figure FAO significant effect to the content of the studied nutrients (Protein, Ash, Starch, Fibre, NDF, Sugar) in whole plant dry matter forage. The correlations were low, trendlines had R2 lower than 0,3. Significant differences (P |
