Adequate intake of colostrum plays an important role in the first hours of newborn calf. The amount of colostrum, which is needed to ensure adequate passive immunity is influenced by the quality, quantity, newborn calf weight, the desired level of immunoglobulins in the blood plasma and the efficiency of absorption. To ensure good level of IgG, the calf weighing 30 kg should take min. 3.1 liters of colostrum and calf weighting 55 kg min. 5.7 liters of colostrum containing 55 g IgG pro l during the first day of life, respectively.
