Abstract

Since 1990, significant transformations in the sheep production and breeding in the CR have taken place. Sheep numbers declined from 430 000 heads in 1990 to 84 000 heads in 2000. From 2001, the numbers slightly increased mainly due to subsidy policy ofthe state and of the EU. Sheep breeding in the CR is focused on lamb meat production. 31 sheep breeds are included in performance testing program.
