Evaluation of the Prestice Black-Pied pig nucleus herd at the Institute of Animal Science in Kostelec nad Orlicí

On 19 September 2023, the evaluation of the Prestice Black-Pied pig nucleus herd took place in the premises of the swine breeding facility in Kostelec nad Orlicí.

The evaluation was carried out by a commission composed of representatives of the company Chovservis a. s. Hradec Králové. The commission also included the president of Swine Producers´ Association, Jan Stibal, M.S. and the head of the IAS Pig Breeding Department Dr. Miroslav Rozkot. The herd in Kostelc nad Orlicí includes thirteen sows and seven boars. Eight sows and four boars were classified for breeding. The chairman of the commission Miroslav Kolář, M.S. appreciated the uniformity of animals and the improvement of reproductive parameters of the herd. The farm in Kostelec nad Orlicí defended the nucleus herd status, i.e. the highest breeding level of Prestice Black-Pied pig, which is of exceptional importance for the population of this genetic reserve. We would like to acknowledge everyone who participated in the preparation of the event, both the employees of the Pig Breeding Department in Kostelec nad Orlicí and the students who helped with the preparation of the animals as part of their field training.
