Success in cattle reproductive biotechnology – birth of a calf from a cryopreserved embryo produced in vitro

On 31 August 2023, a healthy bull calf was born on the farm of the Institute of Animal Science in Netluky from an embryo produced in vitro. This is a continuation of an experiment that is part of the National Agency for Agricultural Research (NAZV) project entitled „New methods for saving endangered livestock populations“ QK1910156. The bull born on the Netluky farm is from an embryo that was cryopreserved before transfer.

The Biology of Reproduction department is awaiting the birth of a purebred calf included in the National Programme on Conservation and Utilization of Plant, Animal and Microbial Genetic Resources. On 12 July 2023, the transfer of a cryopreserved IVF embryo of the Czech Red Cattle was successfully carried out. Pregnancy was confirmed 30 days later by ultrasound. The birth of this purebred calf belonging to genetic resources will contribute to preserving the population of genetic resources in the Czech Republic for the future.
