Turkish delegation at IAS

At the beginning of November, a group of Turkish professionals visited  IAS. They were interested in establishing cooperation with IAS regarding purchase of semen of Czech cattle breeds and genomic analyses of Turkish bulls.


The meeting was attended by Dr. Pavel Čermák, Director of the Institute of Animal Science, Associate Professor Jiří Motyčka, Executive Director of the Holstein Cattle Breeders‘ Association of the Czech Republic, Emeritus Professor Josef Přibyl, a former IAS employee, Dr. Emil Krupa, researcher from the Genetics and Breeding of Farm Animals department, and Kristýna Vacková, M.S. from the Biology of Reproduciton department.

Dr. İlker Ünal from the International Livestock Research Centre, Onur Öztürk, investor and board member of Kalen and farmer Mr. Serkan Baybora participated in the working meeting with the Czech party.

Further cooperation was established on the basis of a sophisticated system for the analysis and processing of genomic data of breeding bulls. Mr. İlker Ünal is involved in the conservation of Turkey’s livestock genetic resources, likewise is the Czech National Centre for Animal Genetic Resources and the depratments of Reproductive Biology and Genetics, and Livestock Breeding. There is a potential for future cooperation. The Turkish delegation also visited the farm in Netluky, where they had the opportunity to learn about the breeding of the Czech Red Cattle and the Czech Fleckvieh, which belong to livestock genetic resources.
