Foot and claw diseases in dairy cows - heritability and genetic relationships to clinical mastitis
|Cathegory||Publication in specialized journals|
Cases of foot and claw diseases from 29 377 lactations of 11 776 Holstein cows were recorded on 7 farms in the Czech Republic from 2000 to 2016. There were 22 711 records of overall claw disease (OCD), average 3 incidence per cow, 1.7 incidence per lactation. A total of 61 % of cows showed at least once in life OCD, 43% of all observed lactations showed the ODC occurrence. The incidence of OCD was mostly affected by the herd, the year of calving, and the age of calving and by parity. Genetic parameters for foot and claw diseases traits and clinical mastitis were estimated using linear animal model. Estimated heritability for OCD was 9%, heritability for clinical mastitis was 13%. Genetic correlation between traits hoof and udder health traits was 10%. Heritability of dermatitises was 10.20% and for ulcer 4.21 %.
