Abstract

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the production and economic indicators of Holstein cattle farms in the Czech Republic in 2022. In a set of 67 Holstein dairy cattle farms, milk yields for 2022 ranged between 7 834 and 12 659 litres per cow per year with an average of 10 394 litres. Compared to the previous year, the level of pregnancy rates of heifers and cows after all inseminations increased slightly, the length of the service period and calving interval decreased and the average herd turnover rate increased. As in previous years, feed costs will be the largest cost item in 2022. On average, total costs amounted to 104 456 CZK per cow per year. The deduction of value of secondary outputs reduced the total cost to 100 526 CZK per cow per year, i.e. 9.91 CZK per litre of milk sold. In the long term, a steady increase in the cost per cow per year is evident in the set of Czech farms. The relationship between the level of costs and the level of milk yield, the farming area, the size of the herd and the milking frequency was demonstrated for the farms. Despite the increase in costs, the above-average farm gate milk price resulted in a positive result for Holstein cattle farms on average in 2022.
