Abstract | Mass occurrence of skin abrasions with following infections of wounds and joints was documented in suckling piglets caused by the strain Streptococcus suis serovar 1 in the first week of life. Skin lesions were found on the pelvic limb in more than 80 %piglets on the second day after birth and on the thoracic limb in 70 % piglets on the five day after birth in the controlled group. Primary causes of mass disease were the technologic factors. Therefore was recommended covering of slippery grates by plastic matting and finalisation of use of intravital disinfection in the surrounding of pens with housed in-farrow sows and newly born piglets. |
