Abstract

The aim of the study was to compare the differences between maize hybrids in the quality and yield parameters of silage from these hybrids. The cut of the selected hybrids was made using a Stihl GHE 105 shredder and ensiled using the Vacsy system. After opening, the silages were driedd and analyzed for chemical composition and rumen digestibility of NDF, which was determined by the in situ method on two Holstein cows. Maize hybrids were also evaluated on the basis of yield parameters, based on the yield of starch, methane, NEL and milk. It can be stated that the P8888 hybrid was the most successful hybrid, especially in terms of yield parameters, which dominated both in starch, methane and NEL yield. Hybrid P8201 showed lower yields but had the highest value of methane production per kg of dry matter. This test also clearly showed how the starch content and the quality (digestibility) of NDF can be influenced by the term of harvest (later harvest = more starch, but lower digestibility of NDF).
