Abstract

„Alternative protein sources in pig nutrition are searched to reduce feed cost without affecting animal performance. Less known alternative protein feed is extracted shredded meal of Oenothera Biennis, a waste from the production of the physiologic effective oil for cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry. The addition of 3% of the meal did not influence parameters of fattening in our experiment, therefore it is possible to use it as an alternative protein source for finishing pigs. Okara is another feed suitable for replacement of current protein components in pig diets. It is a pulp consisting of insoluble parts of the soybean which remains after soybeans are filtered in the production of soy milk and tofu. Okara contains relatively high level of crude protein and energy and therefore it is possible to recommend it as the quality protein feed for pigs.
