Abstract | Based on the relationship between body weight and age at first calving of heifers and subsequent performance and longevity in the production period is possible to define an appropriate system of rearing heifers and their economic breeding maturity. The average age at first calving of Holstein heifers stands at almost 26 months in the Czech Republic and its variability is significantly greater than in the breeding developed countries. Economic benefits of the methodology lies in cost savings in reducing inefficiently long breeding heifers and increase income from milk production and sale of breeding heifers. |
