Abstract | The breeding of dam pig population included in the national program CzePig has been expanded with new breeding objectives this year. Therefore, the aim of the present work was to expand the number of selection criteria of this population and to calculate the breeding selection response using complex selection criteria. The genetic and economic indicators of all traits were updated and the general principles of the selection index theory were applied in the study. The current selection response in the traits of the breeding objective is desirable: +1.526 g of average daily gain (ADG), + 0.022% lean meat (LM) and +0.160 piglets born alive (NBA) per sow and year. When expanding the number of selection criteria, the selection effect for these traits would be maintained the same (e.g. + 0.022% LM and +0.160 NBA per sow and year). At the same time, the desired response would be achieved in new traits: -0.018 days of farrowing interval and +0.040 number of functional teats per sow and year and further the accuracy and the economic selection effect of selection would be increased (by 6% to 7% and by 55%, respectively). The extension of the selection criteria was of positive effect on selected population and further implementation will be therefore consulted with the practice. |
